Fabio Armiliato is one of the most important Italian tenors of the last decade.
He was born in Genova and studied at the Conservatorio “Niccolò Paganini” in his home town. He made his official debut in 1984 as Gabriele Adorno in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra followed by Spontini‘s La Vestale at the Teatro Pergolesi at Jesi. After winning the first price at the Tito Schipa competition in Lecce, his international career developed rapidly and led him to the following opera houses: Teatro dell’Opera di Roma: Ernani (title role), Tosca (Cavaradossi); Teatro Massimo di Palermo: Cavalleria Rusticana (Turiddu); Teatro C: Felice di Genova: Norma (Pollione); Opernhaus Zürich: Un Ballo di Maschera (Riccardo); Frankfurt Opera: La Boheme (Rodolfo); Opèra de Montpellier: Don Carlo (title role) and Simon Boccanegra (Gabriele Adorno); De Vllamse Oper (Don Carlo, Macbeth and the Puccini Cycle directed by R. Carsen: Tosca, La Boheme and Manon Lescaut).

 In 1993 he made his debut at the METROPOLITAN OPERA NEW YORK in Verdi‘s Il Trovatore (Manrico). He has since appeared at the Met  and also been on tour in Japan in the following productions: Aida (Radames), Cavalleria Rusticana (Turiddu), Simon Boccanegra (Gabriele Adorno), Don Carlo (Don Carlo), Fedora (Loris) with M. Freni, Tosca (Cavaradossi) and Carmen (Don Josè). Other milestones in the past years of Fabio Armilito‘s career were his debut as Faust in Boito‘s Mefistofele conducted by M° Riccardo Muti at the SCALA DI MILANO in 1995; Adriana Leucouvreur (Maurizio) and Tosca (Cavaradossi) at the Teatro Colon de Buenos Aires; Aida (Radames) and Il Trovatore (Manrico) at the San Francisco Opera; Tosca (Cavaradossi) with Daniela Dessi’ at the Chicago Lyric Opera , La Bohemé (Rodolfo) with Mirella Freni at the Teatro Regio di Parma; Un Ballo di Maschera (Riccardo) and Carmen (Don José) at the WIENER STAATSOPER, his concert debut at the ROYAL OPERA HOUSE COVENT GARDEN and his triumphal debut at Carnegie Hall in New York, in the title role of Donizetti's Poliuto conducted by M° E. Queler. In 1999-2000 season he returned to Buenos Aires in an unforgettable performances of Mefistofele with Samuel Ramey and after he had another notable success at the MET in Aida and Cavalleria Rusticana; then another important debut: La Fanciulla del West (Dick Johnsson), in Nice and Montpellier, in a beautiful production by Giancarlo Del Monaco. After, he was Ernani in Genoa and Vienna but the season ended with one of the most incredible success in Fabio Armiliato's career: Andrea Chénier in Nice with Daniela Dessì.

 In summer 2000 he sang Aida at the ARENA di Verona and the following season started with a standing ovation for his debut at the Washington Opera in Il Trovatore conducted by Placido Domingo. After that, Un Ballo in Maschera in Munchen conducted by M. Viotti, Aida in Berlin and Bologna, and Don Carlo, Tosca  and Aida at Wiener Staatsoper. Armiliato began the 2000-01 season with another role debut as Luigi in Puccini's Il Tabarro, followed again with Andrea Chénier in Seville, acclaimed by audience and critics. Then Tosca in Hamburg, Paris and Lecce before returning to the MET as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with Daniela Dessì : the radio broadcast of that performance has been considered the best of the season. Armiliato returned to LA SCALA as Pinkerton in a successful series of performances in Madama Butterfly and with Tosca in Arena di Verona (summer 2002) he consolidated his artistic collaboration with Daniela Dessì, which continued in the following seasons with Tosca in Moscow in a tournèe with "Teatro dell'Opera di Roma", Madama Butterfly in Palermo and Ancona, Andrea Chénier in Venice and Turin, Manon Lescaut in Seville, Adriana Lecouvreur in Naples, Aida at the Liceu in Barcelona, Tosca at Teatro Real di Madrid,  Simon Boccanegra and Aida at "Festival Verdi" in Parma and mainly the revival of one of the most important opera of the italian “giovane scuola” period: Francesca da Rimini by Riccardo Zandonai,  triumphally acclaimed by audiences and critics at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma in 2003 and at Sferisterio di Macerata in 2004.

In 2004 he starred with D. Dessì in the Centenary production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly in Torre del Lago and Tokyo. He sang Don Carlo in two productions conducted by Zubin Mehta in Munchen and at Maggio Musicale in Florence and again he proposed the role of Andrea Chenier in different productions: in Bologna, Bilbao, Palermo and Vienna and critics crowned him as "The best Chenier of our days (G.C. Landini - L'OPERA)". Highlights of 2005-2006 season are: la Fanciulla del West in Torre del Lago,  Don Carlo at Theatre du Capitol in Toulouse and at Wiener Staatsoper, la Manon Lescaut in Parma and at Berlin D. O. and his return at Milan LA SCALA  in an acclaimed production of Tosca (Cavaradossi) conducted by Lorin Mazel and with Daniela Dessì in the title role. The season ended with Madama Butterfly in Barcelona and in Arena di Verona.

Season 2006-2007 started with a revival of Don Carlo (5 acts) in Munich followed by an outstanding Tosca in Seoul and in Rome at Auditorio della Conciliazione. Manon Lescaut in Barcelona and Wien were acclaimed successes, then Turandot in Baden Baden conducted by V. Gergiev and his return in La Scala with Adriana Lecouvreur were received with and enthusiastic unanimous success of audience and critics.

Fabio Armiliato has already worked with all major international conductors such as J. Levine, R. Muti, B. Bartoletti, M. Chung, L. Mazel, G. Sinopoli, N. Santi, D. Oren, M. Viotti, D. Renzetti, S. Sutej, F. Luisi, S. Young, C. Badea, C. Rizzi, E. Queler, M. Benini, D. Gatti, V. Gergiev and R. Palumbo.

He won many important acknowledgements for his international career and his rich discography includes DVDs and CDs recordings for the major labels.
